I was drawn to Immaculate Conception parish this past Sunday ...

... Said Mr. Marty Campell (Las Cruces).

You, too, are invited to assist at Mass this Sunday!

Low Mass at 8a and High Mass at 10a

118 N. Campbell St., El Paso

What a treasure we have ... so close! so accessible!

Mr. Campbell's letter sums up his joy .... here it is for you to read:

Dear Francis,
I was drawn to Immaculate Conception parish this past Sunday for Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary form.  It was a joy..!
Father Shannon offered the Mass beginning with a grand entry down the center aisle in what appeared to be a brand new green cope.  He was proceeded by the 5 altar boys which consisted of the MC, Acolyte 1 & 2, Thurifer and Crucifer.  They all performed their roles with the necessary skill and reverence so that the Priest was able to offer the Mass with ease and solemnity.
Father O'Niel was in the Choir loft leading the chants with a skilled choir of 3 women and two men.  They were superb.  It's been so long since I have heard that type of hymns at a Mass it almost brought tears to my eyes. (emphasis added) I know we have become accustomed to hearing "I am Bread of Life, Taste and See", and the others, but after hearing well sung Gregorian chants those hymns sound almost Protestant!
Father exchanged the Cope for his vestments at the Altar and they were of the same design and newness.
After the Mass was over, and I was overwhelmed all over again, I made my way out of the church, stopping to thank Fr. Shannon for a beautiful Mass.
I am impressed that the priests daily hear confessions before Mass and again right afterward, for each Mass.  I wish it would catch on in the Novis Ordo parishes.  Sometimes it is difficult to even find a confessor.
It's a pleasure seeing the two priests setting up the parish and drawing the faithful in.

Faithfully in Him,
Sir Martin Campbell, KCHS

First Sunday Mass (TLM) at Immaculate Conception, El Paso

Fr. John Shannon, FSSP, has informed us that his first Sunday Mass at Immaculate Conception (118 N. Campbell St) will be on Sunday, August 3, at 10am.

Our local FSSP seminarians will be helping him so that it can be a Missa Cantata.
We ask everyone else to lend a hand in any way they are able, most importantly in spreading the word far and wide and encouraging many of the Catholic faithful to assist this beautiful Traditional Latin Mass.

Fr. Shannon has also given permission for the Rosary to be prayed prior to Holy Mass; so that will begin at 930am.

- Fr Shannon will also offer Mass on First Saturday (August 2) and tentatively has that scheduled for 9am.

 - We are also informed us that Fr. Kevin O'Neill will not have arrived yet in El Paso as of August 3rd, but will be arriving later on.

Traditional Latin Mass of Victoria, B.C., Canada

Sometimes we think we are all alone out here in the Southern NM desert praying and working for the establishment of a Traditional Latin Mass in this diocese.  Then, a few days ago, we find that others -- 2,000 miles away -- are praying with us for this blessing.  We received this email on July 2:

Dear Gregorian Society of Las Cruces:

I am having our members in Victoria, B.C., Canada pray for the restoration of an approved every-Sunday Traditional Latin Mass for the Diocese of Las Cruces.  Please keep me informed of the situation.  I hope that Bishop Cantu will consider your petitions and restore your Mass.

In Christo et Maria,

Peter K. Perkins
Master of Ceremonies
Traditional Latin Mass of Victoria, B.C., Canada

Perhaps each of us might offer a Rosary for these faithful partners.

Teaching Meeting

The Lord is risen! Alleluia!
He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!

Today we read (Jn 20.13) that Jesus took bread and fish and "gave it" to the disciples.  St Augustine says: "Mystically, the boiled fish is Christ."

On Easter Wednesday we read (Lk 24.16) that the disciples' eyes "were prevented from recognizing Him..." until there vision was restored in the breaking of the bread.

Please join us for the next Teaching Meeting on Sunday May 4 at the Womens Center in Las Cruces, 2pm - 4:30pm.  David Rodriguez (St Vincent Ferrer Foundation, El Paso) will continue the instruction helping us to recognize, in the Mystery of the Holy Mass, the Eternal Food, Who is Jesus Christ Risen!

The Lord is risen! Alleluia!
He is risen, indeed! Alleluia!

"Extraordinary Faith is pleased to announce the debut of a new, self-titled, 30-minute television series for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) that showcases the beauty of classic Catholic sacred art, architecture, liturgy, and music. Special emphasis is given to the Traditional Latin Mass, also known as the Extraordinary Form or Tridentine Mass. This historic form of Catholic worship has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years, especially among the young, and is a rich source of vocations to the priesthood and religious life."  For more information, click on the link below.

Class on the Traditional Latin Mass

Good for us to be here….

As St Peter observed to our Lord on the Mount of Transfiguration, it is also “Good for us” to meet together again.

On Sunday April 6, our friend David Rodriguez (St Vincent Ferrer Foundation, El Paso) will present a second introductory class on the Traditional Latin Mass in Las Cruces. David’s presentation is rich in basic liturgical principles which helps all Catholics to be familiar with, and especially understand the Sacred Liturgy. And of course we grow in the spiritual goods of filial piety and the love of our brethren.

The class will meet in Las Cruces on Sunday April 6 at 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the “Women’s Club” center at 340 Reymond St – corner of Reymond and W. Court St; across from the Court Youth Center.

St. Joseph, Ora Pro Nobis

This wonderful Solemnity of St. Joseph is an occasion to remember specifically our Shepherds.  And so we pray.....

Saint Joseph,
I present to you this day
Father N______., priest of Jesus Christ,
and beg you to be to him
advocate and defender,
counselor and friend.
Open your heart to him
as you opened your home to the Virgin Mother
in her hour of need.
Protect his holy priesthood
as you protected the life of the Infant Christ
threatened by cruel Herod.
In darkness bring him light;
in weakness, strength,
and in fear the peace that passes understanding.
For the sake of the tender love that bound you
to the Virgin Mary and the Infant Christ,
be for him, Saint Joseph, a constant intercessor
and a shield against every danger of body, mind, and soul
so that, in spite of his weaknesses and sins,
his priesthood may bring glory to Christ
and serve to increase the beauty of holiness
in his bride the Church.
Amen.
(Hat Tip to Fr Z's site)
So too, do not neglect to pray for the priest(s) who Bp. Cantu will soon ask to celebrate the Traditional Mass of the Ages for the faithful.
Remember, also, the necessity of priests in all the parishes in the Diocese of Las Cruces -- pray that 12 Holy, Courageous, and Faithful Priests will be provided to serve in the Diocese before the end of June.

Pray for a More Moral USA

Please let us know if you will be praying for a more moral United States (and world) with us.  Perhaps you may have a specific prayer intention (perhaps a rosary a day?).  And please share this prayer request with others; this nation and the world needs our prayers.

A Blessed Feast Day of Pope St. Gregory the Great!

Pope St Gregory The Great

Today, March 12th, is the Feast Day of Pope St. Gregory I (also known as "St. Gregory the Great"). He is a Doctor of the Church, and the invention of "Gregorian Chant" is largely attributed to him
A Happy and Blessed Feast Day of Pope St. Gregory I to everyone.

Archbishop Alexander Sample on the Traditional Latin Mass

As we pursue more catechism about the Mass, to deepen our understanding and adoration; listen to the homily.

Archbishop Alexander Sample has long been known as one of the most orthodox and tradition-friendly bishops in the United States.  Here he gives a sermon during a Pontifical High Mass offered as the crowning event of a 3-day conference on Gregorian Chant and the role of sacred music in the liturgy at a Brigittine Monastery in Oregon.  Archbishop Sample’s enormous love for the traditional Mass shines brightly through this entire sermon.

Teaching Meeting

The Society, on Sunday March 2, hosted a teaching meeting at Branigan Library in Las Cruces. Mr. David Rodriguez, sponsored by the St Vincent Ferrer Foundation (El Paso), began an instructional series on the "Divine Liturgy: Fundamental Principles Governing How Man is to Worship God." This is foundational material to help us understand objectively "why" The Mass is the centerpointe of Faith.  Mr. Rodriguez combines the instruction of timeless truths with application to everyday events and instances.  He is also very adept at providing trustworthy responses to our questions. The 40 faithful who attended expected a 'lecture' and were instead treated to engagement and encouragement with faithful living.
MIssed it?  Do not despair … more instruction is forthcoming … watch this blog for dates/times.

The Society will conduct a second "introduction" meeting on Sunday, March 23rd at 2:00pm in Deming.  Chris and Amy Seltzer are gracious hosts for hospitality, some information about our interaction with Bp Cantu, and (of course) Q&A.  Please contact us via email at gregoriansocietylc@gmail.com for directions, etc.
